Lifestyle Monks

Founded in 2021, Lifestyle Monks is a holistic private training studio located on 8 Upper Main Street, Rush, County Dublin. We specialise in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, submission grappling, yoga, fitness, and neuromuscular therapy — all taught in a predominantly barefoot environment that promotes natural movement, resilience, and wellbeing. With over 14 years of experience in coaching, therapy, and performance, we work with members from 7 to 75 years of age. Our philosophy is rooted in lifestyle interventions, movement variability, and a positive growth mindset — principles that guide both training and rehabilitation. Whether your goal is to build strength, recover from injury, or develop discipline on and off the mats, Lifestyle Monks provides a supportive, fun environment to help you reach your full potential.

Dean Monks (Founder/Head Coach)

Experience

Dean has coached professionally since 2012 with over 10,000 hours of hands-on experience helping clients and students improve their lives and achieve their goals through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Yoga & Fitness Classes in Rush, Co. Dublin.

Qualifications

Academic:

PhD Researcher in Health & Sports Science at SETU Carlow
Master's Degree in Strength and Conditioning (Level 9)

Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Entrepreneurship (Level 9)
Bachelor's Degree in Entrepreneurship (Level 7)

Business & Computers (Level 6)

Exercise & Fitness (Level 5)

First Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Orange Belt in Kodokan Judo
200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training

50-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

 Jiu-Jitsu offers far more than self-defence — it builds toughness, discipline, and community while improving fitness, strength, and coordination. With consistent training, students develop advanced techniques, a deeper understanding of the art, and greater confidence in problem-solving both on and off the mats. Whether for personal growth, self-defence, or competition, Jiu-Jitsu is a transformative journey worth starting today. Our Senior session caters for those 16 years of age and above.

Hatha Yoga

 Yoga is a transformative practice that builds balance, strength, flexibility, and inner calm. Beyond its physical benefits, yoga nurtures mindfulness, self-awareness, and stress relief, making it a powerful tool for both body and mind. At Lifestyle Monks we teach Hatha Yoga — a more traditional style that is accessible to all levels and stages of life. Whether your goal is improved fitness, greater peace of mind, or personal growth, yoga offers a journey that can transform your everyday life. 

Bodyweight Bootcamp

 Bodyweight Bootcamp is a time-efficient approach to exercise using bodyweight training and minimal equipment. Each session is a full-body workout in just 30 minutes. Minimise your training time while maximising your results. These training sessions engage every muscle group, enhancing strength, endurance, flexibility, and aerobic fitness. Suitable for men and women of all fitness levels. Each exercise can be progressed or modified to match your current level. 30 minutes is 2% of your day, invest in yourself. 

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Juniors

 The physical and mental benefits of Jiu Jitsu for kids is endless. Jiu Jitsu develops important life skills such as discipline, respect, integrity, punctuality, determination, persistence, humility, cooperation and teamwork. Jiu Jitsu teaches kids to work with others and develops key social skills. Jiu Jitsu has the power to calm down a hyperactive child, increase the focus of an inattentive child and instil confidence in a shy child. Our classes focus on self defence, fitness and having lots of fun. Our kids training sessions are catered to kids aged 7-13 years old.
